First want to say, if you wanted to get the Acer Timeline AS1810T-8638 and found that it's no longer available, you're in luck. This is the same exact computer(minus the bluetooth), just with a different number on the back end. The specs are identical. Now on to my review.
Startup was very easy and quick. Only took about ten minutes to get it off the first initial boot. I have to say I'm pretty impressed with Windows 7 so far. I've used XP and Vista in the past so my knowledge of windows is extensive. It took a bit to get used to, but after about an hour of playing around with it, I'm fairly comfortable navigating the new operating system.
Performance of the computer is excellent. It shuts down and starts up lighting fast. I think the 4 gigs of ram helps out a lot. I own another netbook with 2gb of ram running an atom processor, and this Acer just destroys it in speed. Granted its size is a bit bigger at 11.6 inches compared to most netbooks at 10.1, but in my opinion I'd rather sacrifice a little size for faster performance. I'd also like to point out how thin and light the computer is. I can see it being very easy to take around with you wherever you go. The nearly full size keyboard is a plus as well.
Quality of build is solid too in my opinion. I'll give Acer that. In the past their notebooks creaked and just felt cheaply built. This one feels very solid and the keyboard is very smooth. No wiggle of the keys and each key stroke feels natural.
I've heard people complain in the past of a loud fan on notebooks, and this one is very quiet. I hardly ever notice it. I'm also impressed how cool it is sitting on my lap. It doesn't feel warm at all.
As far as ports, it has 3 usbs, hdmi, vga, card reader, microphone, and headphone. I think this is very sufficient for almost anyone. The lack of a cd/dvd drive might be a turn off for some, but it's to be expected with a notebook of this size.
Storage should never be a problem with 320gb. Even with all your music, pictures, and videos, I think it would be hard to fill this completely up.
Battery life: It's supposed to deliver around 8 hours and from what I've seen online that should be about right give or take so lugging around the power cord shouldn't be necessary.
Overall, I'm very impressed with this computer. I think Acer really has a winner on its hands. Its light, has a ton of storage space, 4gb of ram, and runs for about 8 hours (though I haven't confirmed this) without needing to be recharged. How can you go wrong?

Have had this for less than a week but played around with it extensively. Graphics and full-sized keyboard are great and the battery life is fantastic. It was running on the battery for 8 hours normal usage and 5 hours viewing streaming content that output beautifully to my tv via hdmi port.
Minus given in value as price could be lower since you have to purchase an external optical drive. Negative is speaker volume is too low even when maxed out. I'm a musician and have very fine hearing. I found it difficult to clearly hear streaming media. I have ordered headphones and am looking forward to hearing the Dolby Sound Room output through them.
Originally planned to buy an Asus netbook and upgrade RAM/Harddrive but this system has everything- without upgrading. Plus, Intel Core 2 Duo processor is faster than Atom or Celeron. It gets a 3.2 score for system performance. The integrated graphics brings the score down to 3.2 overall with individual scores of: Processor=4.1; RAM=4.8;Hard Disk=5.4; and Graphics= 3.2. That is a higher score than my 17" Vista Acer Laptop.
This small package is a powerful system. I use it in my home theater and for traveling. I love this little pc perhaps more than the fancy desktops that I have built myself.

If you are considering buying a netbook for a travel computer take a look at this one instead. It is a full feature laptop ( 1.3mhz Centrino 2 chip...) no bigger than a legal pad. The only thing it lacks is an internal DVD drive, but there are dozens of external USB powered DVD drives available (i.e. HP 556s ...) to take along if you need one. I got my 1810T from Tiger Direct, they have them in stock at their local retail outlets. The screen on this 1810T is sharp. It comes complete with Windows 7 Premium (x64) and 4gb of DDR2 ram. The hard drive is a big 320gb size but only 5400 RPM. A 7200 RPM drive might make it a little faster but since it's not a gaming computer it doesn't really matter. When the prices come down on large SSD drives that would be a better option. The battery life is indeed long but to get near the 8 hour life they advertise you need to turn off the Wi-Fi. Otherwise you'll see about 5 hours of battery life. The laptop cover is shiney and smooth texture which means finger prints will show easily. Overall I'm very satisfied with this little laptop, and it's perfect to throw in my suitcase for travel. It beats the netbooks hands down.

I chose this Acer 11.6 inch laptop over a netbook, because I wanted a small, lightweight form factor, but with real computing power, so I could do more than just surf the net.
Pros:
Lightweight, vey portable.
Intel Core 2 Duo processor much more powerful than Atom processors in netbooks.
Plenty of RAM and large hard drive for an ultralight.
Crisp, sharp display; 1366 X 768 resolution provides nice coverage without too much scrolling.
Wireless range is good (using 802.11g, haven't tried Draft-N yet).
Comfortably-sized keyboard for such a small laptop.
Touchpad is smooth and accurate; multi-touch takes some getting used to.
Battery life is excellent! (I haven't tested it for 8 hours straight, but using it periodically throughout the day, I think it would come close. Laptop Magazine's test indicated 8 hrs, 45 min. on their standard battery test.
Plenty of ports - 3 USB, HDMI!!, multi-card reader.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit; I like this OS much better than Vista.
Cons:
Bottom left side gets fairly warm, but I can use it directly on my lap without any discomfort.
Not really a con, but something to be aware of: no optical drive; but that shouldn't be expected in an ultralight like this. I bought an external USB DVD drive which works fine when I need one.

I've had this laptop for about a month now, with no issues (hardware or software). That means I also haven't needed to use Acer's technical support, so I can't comment on that.
I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking for an ultrportable with more computing power than a netbook.

I'm a computer professional and picky about computers. This is an awesome computer because its extremely light and comparatively powerful and battery long lasting. This is a tiny machine and kind of waify in a good way. Carry it with you everywhere. The machine is fast out of hibernation and generally there is no drag. Blue LEDs look nice. Great beautiful display, but 1366x768 is not a full size and you will wish you had more vertical pixels at times. Must fine tune the display pixel size and zoom the browser for older eyes. I'll take the compact/light over the extra pixels - referring to 3.1 lbs vs 4.3 lbs - its a big diff to me. Keys are not ideal but can be navigated. Keep hitting "]" when I hit enter- DOH!! Arrow keys are 1/2 size - yuck - c'mon Acer. Mouse buttons are thin and tiny - too much so - ouch. Its probably more a recreational computer than a student's research computer due to limited screen size/keyboard. The Blue is nice. I love it for what it is and not for what it is not. Hope this helps.
